THE BAYS

THE BRIEF: To join forces with the Bays, composers Simon Metcalfe, and John Hale, for a unique orchestral improvisation powered by computer technology. The score is written in real-time, fed to the musicians LCD screens, and conductor Jules Buckley brings in the musicians as he sees fit. The Bays respond to the orchestra, the composers respond to the Bays, and the improvisation takes on its own life.

THE RESULT: A first for electronically powered orchestral improvisation. Premiered at the Philharmonic Hall as part of Liverpool Capital of Culture, the project then successfully toured major concert halls throughout the UK to large and diverse audiences.
